Health Coach: Lifestyle Change Agent
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. -Albert Einstein
If you are unhappy with your health and it is robbing you of your one and only shot at living your life to your full potential, you must do the hard work of change. With a professional guide in the effort, you will have scientific evidence to support what to do, help to break large tasks into small doable tasks, strategies to adjust your environment or cope with parts of the environment that cannot be changed and just a cheerleader and fan along the journey. I will be the first to admit to how very hard it is to change. You will find the energy to change in the knowledge that someone knows your story, believes you can feel well again and is lighting the path to wellness for you based on your unique genetics, physiology and environment and respects your personality, culture and lifestyle.
“The longest journey begins with a single step.” Lao Tzu
You tell me what your health concerns and goals are. I will help guide you along the “least thorny” path to rebalance and correct the underlying causes of your illnesses. But you are in the driver’s seat, picking which step to try first, how many to do at a time, etc. It may not be the fastest route but it will be the one the works and continues to work (sustainable). I support natural and conventional treatment of symptoms to make your life easier through the healing process but if we do not correct the underlying problems, you will be playing “whack-a-mole” on symptoms for the rest of your life. Natural treatment of symptoms with vitamins, herbs and nutraceuticals, are referred to as “green medicine” and while an indispensable part of my tool kit, is still “conventional medicine” thinking and not Functional Medicine. This is “downstream therapy” that targets symptoms and Functional Medicine is “upstream therapy” that targets causes. The problem with only treating symptoms is you “feel more comfortable” while continuing to move down the illness-wellness continuum toward ever-increasing loss of health. Functional medicine therapies restore balance and support the body’s natural healing mechanisms to shift your health trajectory toward optimal wellness.
